About Boom Cellar

BoomCellar is the analytics website for investors in wine stocks — the small, scattered, and quietly fascinating universe of publicly listed vineyards, Champagne houses, and wine producers. Wine as an asset class usually means bottles, funds, or Liv-ex indices of fine-wine prices. BoomCellar covers the other route: owning the producers themselves, through ordinary listed equities on 16 countries' exchanges.

The site first launched in 2015 with a composite index and a screener of ~30 listed vineyards. This 2026 rebuild refreshes the universe (a surprising share of the 2015 list has since been acquired, delisted, or wound down), recomputes the index, and modernises the stack — while keeping the original idea intact: one number for the listed wine industry.

BIPTVI — index definition

BIPTVI (Boom Cellar Index of Publicly Traded Vineyards) is a market-capitalisation-weighted composite of 25 listed wine producers.

What happened to the 2015 universe

A decade in listed wine is brutal — consolidation and take-privates thinned the list considerably. Gone since the original launch:

Meanwhile a new generation listed: Italian Wine Brands and Masi Agricola in Milan, Purcari in Bucharest, Chapel Down in London, and Sula Vineyards in Mumbai — all now in the index.
